辛くもアレクサンドリアから脱出したジタンたち一行は、シド大公の助力を得て霧の大陸を離れ、クジャの秘密を探る新しい大陸の旅に向かいます。そこで浮かび上がってくるのは、それぞれの生まれの謎、そして生きる理由――。

The people in the story had flaws, as we all do.
That is why they become heroes in the people's mind.
Ramuh：...I want to know what you think, in your own words.
Dagger：...Me? I am away from my country,
but I haven't forgotten about my people...
Ramuh：Maybe you'll begin to relax once I become your eidolon...
ラムウ：何故結びに「人間」を選んだ？
ダガー：人は共感できる者を語り継ぐのです。物語の人物であっても欠点はある、
私達と同じように。だから人々の記憶の中で英雄になるのでしょう。
ラムウ：…お主自身の考えを聞きたいのじゃよ、己自身の言葉でな
ダガー：…私の？国から遠く離れても、皆のことが頭から離れなくて…

コンデヤパタのドワーフたちはスコットランド方言で喋っていて、見慣れていないとちょっと難しいでしょう。これを一般的な英語に戻すとこうなります。

今回のパートは難しい単語こそ少ないものの、「Home」「Live」「Death」など、物語のテーマに関わる話が続きます。意味理解は簡単でも、根源的になるほど言葉の重みを表現するのは難しくなるでしょう。
今回注目したいのは、ジタンの回想に出て来た"The man is still looking for his birthplace~”の部分です。日本語版で「故郷」「いつか帰るところ」としているのを英語では「Birthplace」「A place to call home」と訳しました。英語において「Home」は大きな感情が伴う言葉で、基本的には精神的な拠り所を表わします。自分の育った町など少なからず思い入れがあることが条件で、単に「Birthplace」、出生地だけでは「Home」とは呼びにくいです。日本語の「故郷」は両者のイメージを持っているので、英語で生まれ育ちの話が出たとき、自己紹介の時などはこの二つを区別することを心がけましょう。
